Frequently Asked Questions
Pricing, privacy, HMRC compliance, and the differences between our tools.
Pricing & refunds
How much does it cost?
Every clean, watermark-free PDF is £1.99. The same price applies to every tool — payslip, salary statement, rent receipt, payment receipt, and VAT invoice. There is no subscription, no recurring charge, and no upsell.
Is there a free option?
Yes — every tool offers a free watermarked preview. The preview is the full document with a “SAMPLE” watermark across each page. It’s useful for checking your details before paying. If a tool is described as “free” on payslipmaker.uk, it always means “free watermarked preview” — never “free document for HMRC, banks or landlords”.
Is the £1.99 a subscription?
No. It is a one-off charge per clean PDF. Buying a payslip does not give you free salary statements, and there is no recurring billing of any kind.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes — within 14 days of purchase if the document is genuinely defective (e.g. malformed PDF, missing fields). Because the file is generated and downloaded entirely in your browser, we generally suggest using the free watermarked preview first to verify the layout and figures. Email us at hello@payslipmaker.uk with your card last four digits and the issue.
Privacy & data
Where is my data stored?
Nowhere — your form data lives only in your browser tab. The PDF is generated client-side using JavaScript running on your machine, so no part of your information is sent to our servers, never mind stored. Close the tab and the data is gone.
Do you collect my email?
No. There is no signup, no account, no email field anywhere on the site. The only personal information we ever see is whatever the payment processor passes back from your card transaction (typically a name and the last four digits).
Do you use tracking cookies?
No advertising cookies, no remarketing pixels, no Facebook pixel, no Google Tag Manager. We optionally use Plausible Analytics, which is privacy-friendly, GDPR-compliant out of the box, and doesn’t use cookies at all.
Are these documents 'really' anonymous?
From our side, yes — we never see them and they never enter our infrastructure. From the recipient’s side (e.g. a landlord, employer, lender), the documents contain whatever personal information you put on them, the same as any rent receipt or payslip. Privacy here is “between you and the document”, not “the document is unreadable”.
HMRC & compliance
Are these payslips and invoices accepted by HMRC?
The Payslip Generator uses the 2025/26 PAYE, NI, student-loan and pension auto-enrolment rules and produces documents that meet the Employment Rights Act 1996 requirements for itemised payslips. The VAT Invoice Generator includes every field HMRC requires for a valid VAT invoice. None of this is a substitute for full payroll software, accounting software, or filing your return — it’s document generation, not compliance.
Will this submit my tax return?
No. payslipmaker.uk only generates documents. To file Self Assessment, run PAYE, or submit VAT returns under Making Tax Digital, you need HMRC-recognised software (or your accountant).
Do you handle Making Tax Digital?
No. From April 2026, sole traders and landlords with combined income above £50,000 must use MTD-compatible software for Income Tax. Our generators produce PDF documents that you can keep as part of your records, but they don’t submit anything. The threshold drops to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028.
Can I generate Scottish payslips?
Yes — toggle “Scottish taxpayer” in the Payslip Generator and the Scottish Income Tax bands (starter, basic, intermediate, higher, advanced, top) are applied automatically. National Insurance is set UK-wide so doesn’t change.
Why does the VAT invoice say "reverse charge"?
Only if you tick the reverse-charge option. The reverse charge applies to UK domestic CIS construction services (since March 2021) and certain cross-border B2B supplies — the customer accounts for the VAT to HMRC instead of paying it to you. The invoice must say so explicitly.
The tools
What is the difference between the Payslip and the Salary Statement?
The Payslip Generator auto-calculates PAYE, National Insurance, pension and student-loan deductions using the 2025/26 HMRC rates — useful when you want a real, HMRC-correct document. Salary Statement is a lighter-weight, manual-entry version (also known as a salary slip in some countries) for cases where you already know the figures — typically loan applications, mortgage proofs, or visa records.
Can I generate multiple months of rent receipts at once?
Yes. The Rent Receipt Generator produces up to 12 months in a single PDF — one receipt per page, all consecutively numbered. Most UK tenancy agreements run for 6–12 months so this typically covers a full year.
Can I issue an advance or part-payment receipt?
Yes — the Payment Receipt Generator supports advance, part-payment and final-payment scenarios. If you fill in the optional “Total amount agreed” and “Previously received” fields, the document title and a payment ledger update automatically: Advance Receipt, Part-Payment Receipt, or Final Payment Receipt with a “PAID IN FULL” stamp.
Can I add my logo to the documents?
Not yet. We may add custom branding as a future option. For now the documents use a clean, neutral house style — which lenders and HMRC actually prefer over heavily branded templates.
